Q: How long have you been into street art ? Give me a little background of your starts.
I started painting in 2004, in Rome. I was 16 years old girl and it was a life changer for me. I was very thrilled with my discovery of way to express myself and in that process experience unlimited freedom. At that time I didn’t really think about what I was doing, but I knew that it right thing for me. I went back to Belgrade and continued to make stencils and from there it only grew bigger. My perception of public space completely changed and I started to discover all the possibilities of it.
Q: How did you learn the drawing skills? Do you have formal art training?
None of my formal education is artistic. Except photography in high school, I never went through any art training .
Q: How would you describe your style?
My style is mostly defined by stencils. I love that esthetics and simplicity of it.
Q: Is there any particular message that people should read from your art?
Graffiti is the type of art that allows you to push your boundaries, to experiment and free yourself from the conventional approach to art. Freedom of expression and calming back public space is what it boils down to. City influences you and you influence the city. I pick the subjects for my artwork sometimes because they are important to me (or it he/she was important to the world) in some way, but most of the time I just want to trigger certain emotion or atmosphere. Once the artwork is in the public space it starts to have a life of its own and it is free for interpretation.
Q: What’s your favorite medium to work with?
I love stencils and spray paint, and for 10 years now it is my primary thing. Recently I started experimenting with 3D printing and I’m trying to make my portraits into 3D sculptures.
Q: As many artists you love to travel and paint. How much does the current place you live helps you to get inspired? Where do you feel most comfortable?
Travel is always good in someone’s life- a chance to rethink and grow. I live in Belgrade and it is influencing my style a lot. Sometimes Serbia as a country has its own limitation but that for me as an artist it’s just another challenge that I have to deal with. From street art perspective Belgrade is a perfect playground. There are a lot of empty space that allow change. Belgrade is mostly a gray city so any kind of color is a good change.
Q: As a (female) artist, what are some of your greatest challenges or obstacles you face?
I don’t see any difference between male and female street artist. Fact is that graffiti writing is something that most of people perceive as something males would do and females in that sense are minority. Only difference is one that people create inside their heads. Nothing can stop you from painting if you want to paint and don’t think for a second that that is something girl inappropriate. Graffiti writing is something that can be high risk activity and if you want to do it you will have to accept it no matter if you are girl or a boy.
Q: What are some of your interesting experiences ?
When you spend a lot of time on the streets you meet very interesting people. Also at night the city becomes different, you get to know it in another light with different types of people. Some of those moments can be magical but you can also see its brutal and ugly side. It changes your perspective and inspires you to create.

Q: De când eşti în lumea graffiti şi a ilustraţiei? Povesteşte-mi puţin despre cum ai început.
Am început să desenez în 2004, la Roma. Aveam 16 ani şi asta mi-a schimbat viaţa. Eram încântată de descoperirea mea – un mod de a mă exprima, un proces prin care să experimentez libertatea fără limite. La vremea aceea nu mă prea gândeam la ce fac, dar am ştiut că este la fix pentru mine. M-am întors în Belgrad şi am continuat să fac stencils; şi de atunci, totul a luat proporţii. Percepţia mea asupra spaţiului public s-a schimbat complet şi am început să descopăr tot felul de posibilităţi de lucru cu spaţiul public.
Q: Cum ai învăţat să desenezi? Ai trecut prin cursuri formale de artă?
Educaţia mea formală nu are legătură cu arta. În afară de un curs de fotografie în liceu, nu am trecut prin nicio pregătire artistică.
Q: Cum ţi-ai descrie stilul?
Stilul meu este definit de stencils. Îmi place estetica şi simplitatea acestui mod de lucru.
Q: Este vreun mesaj anume pe care ai vrea ca oamenii să-l înţeleagă din arta ta?
Graffiti este o formă de artă care îţi permite să-ţi depăşeşti limitele, să experimentezi şi să te eliberezi de înţelegerea convenţională a artei. Libertatea de expresie şi interacţiunea cu spaţiul public sunt defenitorii pentru această formă de artă. Oraşul te influenţează şi tu influenţezi oraşul.
Uneori îmi aleg subiecte/ personaje care sunt importante pentru mine într-un anume fel sau subiecte/ personaje care au fost importante pentru lume. Dar de cele mai multe ori vreau doar să provoc o anumită emoţie sau să generez o anumită atmosferă. Odată ce lucrarea ia formă în spaţiul public, începe să aibă o viaţă proprie şi devine liberă pentru interpretări diverse.
Q: Care este instrumentul/ mijlocul tău de lucru preferat?
Îmi plac stencils şi spray paint, de 10 ani astea sunt mijloacele mele esenţiale. Recent am început să experimentez cu 3D printing şi acum încerc să îmi transform portretele în sculpturi 3D.
Q: Ca multe artiste/artişti, îţi place să călătoreşti şi să desenezi. Cât de mult te inspiră oraşul în care locuieşti în prezent? Unde te simţi cel mai confortabil?
Călătoriile sunt mereu bune – sunt ocazii pentru a-ţi re-analiza modul în care gândeşti şi pentru a te dezvolta. Locuiesc în Belgrad şi asta îmi influenţează foarte mult stilul. Se poate spune că Serbia ca ţară are anumite limitări, dar asta pentru mine este doar o provocare în plus, pe care să o depăşesc. Din perspectiva street art, Belgrad este un „playground” perfect: sunt multe spaţii goale, care permit transformări; Belgrad este un oraş destul de gri, deci orice culoare este o transformare în bine.
Q: Ca artistă femeie, care sunt cele mai dificile provocări şi obstacole cu care te confrunţi?
Eu nu văd diferenţe între street artişti şi artiste. Într-adevăr, graffiti este considerat de mulţi oameni ca fiind ceva al bărbaţilor, iar femeile sunt în acest sens o minoritate. Dar diferenţele se formează şi există doar în capul oamenilor. Nu trebuie să le iei în seamă, nimic nu te poate opri din desenat dacă vrei să desenezi. Şi să nu crezi nicio secundă că graffiti ar fi ceva nepotrivit pentru fete. Graffiti poate fi o activitate cu riscuri mari şi dacă vrei să faci asta, va trebui să accepţi riscurile, indiferent dacă eşti băiat sau fată.
Q: Spune-ne despre experienţele interesante prin care ai trecut.
Când petreci mult timp pe străzi, întâlneşti oameni foarte interesanţi. Iar noaptea oraşul se schimbă, ajungi să îl vezi într-o altă lumină, cu alt fel de oameni. Astfel de momente pot fi magice, dar poţi vedea şi partea brutala, urâtă a oraşului. Aceste experienţe îţi schimbă perspectiva şi te inspiră să creezi.
